1) فعل های دو كلمه ای (Two – word verbs)
1 – بسیاری از فعل ها از دو كلمه تشكیل شده اند، یكی قسمت اصلی فعل و دیگری جزء قیدی كه آن را كامل می كند.مانند Put on‌ كه قسمت اصلی آن Put‌و جزء دیگر آن On‌می باشد.

Put -> فعل
On -> جزء قیدی

شما با چند فعل دو كلمه ای زیر قبلاً آشنا شده اید:

Put on = پوشیدن
Give back =‌پس دادن
Wake up =شدن بیدار
Take off =لباس درآوردن
Pick up = برداشتن
Turn on = روشن كردن
Call up=تلفن كردن
Turn down= كم كردن صدا

  2 – اگر مفعول فعل دو كلمه ای یك اسم باشد، هم می تواند بعد از قسمت اصلی فعل دو كلمه ای بیاید و هم می تواند بعد از جزء قیدی فعل دو كلمه ای بیاید به مثال زیر توجه كنید:

I put on my coat. (put on + مفعول)
I put my coat on. (Put‌+ مفعول+ On(

  3 – حال اگر مفعول فعل دو كلمه ای، یك ضمیر باشد فقط می تواند ما بین دو كلمه فعل دو كلمه ای بیاید.

به مثال زیر توجه كنید:

I put it on.(put+ ضمیر مفعولی+on)

ملاحظه می كنید كه it كه مفعول است ما بین put , on كه دو كلمه فعل دو كلمه ای هستند آمده است. به چند مثال دیگر توجه كنید:

I turn on the TV. (turn on + مفعول)
I turn the TV on. (turn + مفعول+ on)
I turn it on. (turn + ضمیر مفعول+on)

Can you wake up Mary at 6:00? (wake up + مفعول)
Can you wake Mary up at 6 : 00 ? (wake+مفعول+up)
Can you wake her up at 6:00? (wake +ضمیرمفعولی+up)

  2) حرف اضافه + فعل یا صفت (adjective/verb+ preposition)

بعد از فعل ها و صفت ها می توان حرف اضافه را آورد. اسم یا ضمیری كه بعد از حرف اضافه می آید، مفعول آن است و همیشه بعد از آن می آید.

He is looking for his pen
He is looking for it.

بعد از فعل look حرف اضافه  for‌آمده است و مفعول آن his pen یا It بعد از حرف اضافه آمده است.

I'm sorry about the accident.
I'm sorry about it.

بعد از صفت sorry حرف اضافه about آمده است و مفعول آن the accident یا It بعد از حرف اضافه آمده است.

He is waiting for her sister.

They are talking about the children.
I'm sorry about the accident.
He was afraid of the animals.
